Price of foods items remained stable in Damaturu in the last two weeks, a market survey conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) showed.

NAN checks on Tuesday indicate that a 100kg of red beans is being sold at N18,000, a drop from N19,000 in the last two weeks.

Similarly, a 100kg of white beans now sells at N16,000, while a 100kg of wheat is sold at N18,000, a 100kg of groundnut goes for N25,500, while 100kg of Soya beans is sold at N16,000.

A 100kg bag of local rice sells between N26,000 and N27,000, 100kg of sorghum sells for N5,500, 100kg of maize is N7,500, while 100kg of millet is sold at N7,000.

Price of tomatoes, red and white pepper ranges between N5,000 and N6,000 per basket.

Consumers in Damaturu welcomed the price stability, attributing it to more engagements in agriculture by people across the state.

Alhaji Musa Mohammed, a retired civil servant who turned farmer, said the massive participation of people in farming  contributed to the price stability.

“Many civil servants are now engaged in farming activities and the harvests are good and stabilising the prices,’’ Musa said. (NAN)
