An economist, Mr Kaseem Iyanda, on Tuesday urged investors to take positions in the nation’s equities market to benefit in the near future.

Iyanda, an official of an investment firm, Royal Guaranteed Trust Ltd. in  Lagos, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He said that in spite of the nation’s current infrastructural challenges, the capital market fundamentals were still good for willing investors.

According to him, this is the time to invest because the current low price of stocks is not the actual state of the capital market.

“For willing investors, now that the equities are on the decline is the best season to buy shares for the future.

“The initial reduction in value being experienced notwithstanding, this period is most suitable to invest and reap in the future because the current apprehension won’t live for long,” he said.

Iyanda said that one of the factors responsible for the exit of Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) was the uncertainty arising from the coming 2019 general elections.

According to him, it has been like that over the years when a general election is close, FPI inflow reduces because of the uncertainty of the election processes.

“But that apprehension will fade out immediately after a peaceful transition is held, especially now that the economic fundamental of the country is good.

“The equities market, for now, should be the hub for investment,” Iyanda said.
